RED-WOOD-ROAD
– a video- and lightinstallation by MUTUAL LOOP (Holger Lang and Martina Tritthart) from May to June 2022 in the the ‚Red Carpet Showroom‘ in public space at Karlsplatz Vienna featured by Künstlerhaus.
With the help of Bernhard Meißnitzer and the team of Künstlerhaus: Pete Gmachl, Vinzent Cibulka and Gerald Roßbacher.
Trains, buses, cars, bicycles and pedestrians meet over several levels at one of Vienna’s busiest transport hubs. In addition, trees, meadows, flower beds and bodies of water invite you to linger, rest and dream. The contrast between urban movement and the relaxing power of nature can hardly be greater than in this place. Video loops on spatially arranged screens and a slowly running light sequence pick up on these opposites and continue them reflected in the showroom. Vehicles move through the city in patterns that always appear to be the same, along lanes and lane markings. Bushes and trees, in turn, create counterpoints in the visual composition. A red line not only leads through the underpass, it also connects the street with a virtual undergrowth in which a stylized jungle also dissolves into shapes and structures. The question of a confrontation between the challenges of traffic in the urban environment and nature itself, as a synonym for a possible different way to each other, is discussed and negotiated aesthetically in this work. However, it is not about presenting a simplified position on either city or country, on traffic or forest, but about presenting what connects and complements each other.

nach.LEUCHTEN
was a participatory project by MUTUAL LOOP (Holger Land, Martina Tritthart) including two guided tours in public space in Vienna with 12 visitors on November 15, 2021 during the VIENNA ART WEEK. The route and its stations starting from Sternstudio Gallery in Vienna: Mayergasse, Czerningasse, Passage Czerningasse 7-9, Praterstraße, Rotensterngasse, Weintraubengasse, Renzhof, Zirkusgasse, Novaragasse, Praterstraße, Mayergasse
The tour included an examination of the cultural history of the 2nd district around Praterstraße and visits to artistic trades. In the Sternstudio gallery, pictures of the people named in the tour, historical events and buildings as well as specialist literature on them could be seen. In addition, the films presented during the tour could be seen again on a monitor.
In addition to a kind of double conference between the guest artist Anat Stainberg and organizer Martina Tritthart, the tour included a mobile projection unit with a projector and battery, as well as a small trolley operated by Holger Lang. For each of the alleys, streets and squares mentioned above, there were detailed reports and stories about well-known personalities who used to live here, were born or died here. Above all, the lively culture and circus scene in the 19th century around the Carlstheater and the Renz circus as well as numerous smaller theatres, variety shows and cafés was the subject of these tours. At selected stations, short animated films were projected onto the facades of houses, the content of which was related to the respective location. The participants received laser pointers and instructions to trace certain images from memory. In addition to the conversations, further communicative dynamics emerged. The discussions were then continued in depth in the Sternstudio gallery.
VORTEX
VORTEX is a tunnel of vibrating lines within an industrial space that can evoke dynamic work processes and the belief in progress that is often manifested in them, but at the same time with a chaotic weave of lines, it can also call them into question. The path along the ribbons leads into the unknown and undiscovered. The whole picture will never be fully visible, an uncertainty in space always remains. The light, which is itself invisible, travels along the rays, which themselves are not luminous. We used 2 kilometers of rubber bands for this multimedia installation including light and sound. VORTEX was part of the exhibition HOUSE OF LOSING CONTROL at the Vienna ART week in November 2021. VORTEX is a project by mutual loop (Martina Tritthart & Holger Lang)
BREATHING STAR
Right above the center of the labyrinth in the City Park in Skopje North-Macedonia raises BREATHING STAR, a dynamic light and space-installation. The size of the structure consisting of about 400 strings is 16 x 18 meter and 5 meter high. Together with a sophisticated light-choreography and a surround sound designed for the unique spatial situation the artwork changes its appearance, creating an oscillating, pulsating, vivid atmosphere. It is highly recommended to enter the structure. There is a walkthrough to experience the artwork from the inside. Beyond the experience of the artwork itself we want to draw the attention of the viewers to the night sky above. Breathing STAR becomes a window on the universe. BREATHING STAR was part of the international lightfestival „Skopje Light district“ in September 2021. BREATHING STAR is a project by mutual loop (Martina Tritthart & Holger Lang)
IN-SIDE-OUT
IN-SIDE-OUT is part of the project SOLARIS curated by Mehr Licht in Graz, Schlossbergstollen-Galerie. Based on the novel by Stanislav Lem „In-Side-Out“ questions the alien in ourselve. „In-Side-Out“ is a dynamic light installation that stages the oscillations of light and sound. IN-SIDE-OUT, dimension 3 x 2,5 x 30 meter, is a project by mutual loop (Martina Tritthart & Holger Lang) at the Schlossbergstollen-Galerie GRAZ, July 31st 2020 – March 2021
A tube of vibrating lines within a tunnel that has no visible end is a metaphor for diving into the ocean of the unconscious, into the secrets of our own identity, in which we become strange and eerie to ourselves. The path into the unknown and unexplored within our souls can only be taken slowly. The whole picture will never be fully visible. Like a dark sun, the far end of the corridor reflects the transition into what is hidden inside the world that we know. Light and matter lead us into the depth of the mountain and at the same time into the depth of memories of our adventures, experiences and the impressions that we have gathered. We stretch a bright thread that can figuratively bring us from the underground back to the daylight of our consciousness. This connection builds the tunnel that links us with the hidden, with the darkness and the mysterious inside us.
SCHLEIFENSACHE II
Die Installation „Schleifensache II“ ist ein gemeinsames Projekt von Martina Tritthart und Holger Lang (Mutual Loop) für den ASIFAKEIL im Museumsquarier Wien, von 16. 6. – 17.7. 2020
Schleifensache
Die Installation „Schleifensache“ ist ein gemeinsames Projekt von Martina Tritthart und Holger Lang (Mutual Loop) für den Hauptraum der Galerie Frise im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Geht´s noch? Weiter?“ von 14. – 16. Februar 2020 in Hamburg im FRISE Künstlerhaus.
Sky-Lights
небесные огни, NE TEMNO #8
Undarkfestival, Jekaterinburg, Russia 21 – 22. December 2019 curated by Evgenia Niktina, Cultural Transit Foundation
This building, or what is remaining of it, with its steel grid is reminding of the architectural period of Constructivism, which still has a presence in Jekaterinburg. When considering this viewing platform the „Wolkenbügel“ from 1925, El Lissitzkys so-called Cloud irons, comes to mind. For Holger Lang and Martina Tritthart this edifice can work as a silent observer of the history, of the arts, and of the city, collecting and condensing the hopes and dreams of the people. In the project of Mutual Loop this building will turn into „Sky-Lights“, simultaneously functioning as a beacon, as a horizontal lighthouse, and a spatial movie. The structure of the building becomes the structure of the film. White light turns into colors and vice versa, framed in a temporal and varying loop. The inside irradiates to the outside and the concrete turns abstract.
